Click to view full-size. Capitolio - A pre Fidel Castro Cuban Monopoly Game Capitolio is a Cuban manufactured Monopoly type game. Basically, a direct knock-off of Parker Brothers Monopoly Game. Date of manufacture is unknown at this time (best guess is mid 1940s to 1959) but it had to be made before 1959, as when Fidel Castro came to power, all Monopoly games both US and Cuban made were ordered destroyed. A Capitalist game doesn't fit well with a Communist Revolution. I am of Cuban descent and had been looking for this game since the early 1990s. I was in Cuba in 2017 and tried to find a copy of the game, but Cubans I talked to remember the game and said that owning the game was considered "Prohibido!" The person I purchased the game from told me that she purchased it years ago either from a garage sale or thrift store in Washington State. This game is VERY RARE and in excellent condition!! |
